Dodge VIN decoder
Dodge is a Stellantis brand sold in the US through FCA US LLC of Auburn Hills, Michigan. Stellantis was formed in January 2021 by the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Groupe. Dodge's current US lineup is the Charger, offered with gasoline engines and as the electric Charger Daytona, and the Durango SUV. The Hornet compact SUV, built at Pomigliano d'Arco in Italy, has been discontinued.

The Charger is built at Windsor Assembly in Ontario, Canada, and the Durango at the Jefferson plant of the Detroit Assembly Complex in Michigan, so a new Dodge VIN starts with 2 or 1. Stellantis has said a next-generation Durango is due in 2029. Dodge-badged pickups are a separate case: Ram became a stand-alone brand in 2009, so older Dodge Ram trucks decode as Dodge, while newer ones decode as Ram.
Every Dodge from model year 1981 onward carries a 17-character VIN. Recent Stellantis WMIs are shared among brands, and the brand itself sits in positions 5 to 7, so read the whole VIN rather than the first three characters. For sister brands, see Chrysler and Jeep.
NHTSA’s files hold 436 vehicle recall campaigns and 100,480 owner complaints for Dodge vehicles from model years 1995 to 2027, summarised here on 58 model pages. The Durango has the most complaints (13,762), followed by the Grand Caravan (12,534) and the Ram 1500 (12,283). Of those complaints, 6,009 report a crash, 2,726 a fire, 3,967 at least one injury and 143 at least one death; the figures count complaints, not people.

What do positions 4 to 11 mean on a current Dodge?
In the 2027 VIN code guide that FCA US filed with NHTSA, position 4 is the restraint system, positions 5 to 7 give the brand, marketing name, price series, drive position, drive type and body type, position 8 the engine, 9 the check digit, 10 the model year and 11 the plant. For the Charger, the guide lists position 8 as K for the 400-volt electric drive of the Charger Daytona and P for the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six.

Is my Dodge Ram decoded as a Dodge or a Ram?
It depends on the model year. Ram became a separate brand in 2009, and pickups built after the split carry Ram as the make. Earlier trucks sold as the Dodge Ram decode with Dodge as the make, so use this Dodge page for them and the Ram decoder for newer ones.
How can I tell an electric Charger Daytona from a gas Charger by VIN?
Look at position 8. In FCA's 2027 guide, K marks the 400-volt battery-electric drive used by the Charger Daytona and P marks the 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six gasoline engine.
