Chrysler VIN decoder
Chrysler is one of the American brands of Stellantis N.V., the group formed when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and PSA Groupe merged in January 2021. Its US operating company is FCA US LLC, based in Auburn Hills, Michigan; that company was called Chrysler Group LLC until December 2014. In the US, Chrysler now sells minivans only: the Pacifica, Pacifica Hybrid and Voyager.

The Pacifica is built at Windsor Assembly in Ontario, Canada, which is why a new Pacifica VIN starts with 2, the region code for Canada. Windsor also builds the Dodge Charger, so Chrysler and Dodge VINs from that plant share the plant code R. The Chrysler 300 sedan ended production at Brampton, Ontario, where the last 300C was built on December 8, 2023. Older Chryslers came from US and Mexican plants as well, so the first character of the VIN varies by model and year.
Every Chrysler from model year 1981 onward carries a 17-character VIN. Recent Stellantis VINs identify the brand inside positions 5 to 7 rather than in the WMI, so decoding the full VIN matters more than reading the first three characters. For Chrysler's sister brands, see Dodge, Jeep and Ram.

The Town and Country has the most complaints (12,966), followed by the Pacifica (6,984) and Chrysler 300 (4,923). Of those complaints, 2,077 report a crash, 955 a fire, 1,529 at least one injury and 48 at least one death; the figures count complaints, not people.

What do positions 4 to 11 mean on a Chrysler VIN?
FCA US files a model-year VIN code guide with NHTSA under 49 CFR Part 565. In the 2027 guide, position 4 is the restraint system; positions 5 to 7 together give the brand, marketing name, price series, drive position, drive type and body type; position 8 is the engine; 9 the check digit; 10 the model year; and 11 the assembly plant.

The Grand Caravan in that row is sold in Canada only and is built at Windsor alongside the Pacifica. Because positions 5 to 7 are read as a group and their codes change between model years, check them against the model year before assuming a trim.
Why does a Chrysler Pacifica VIN start with 2C4?
Because it is built in Canada. The Pacifica is assembled at Windsor, Ontario, and FCA's 2027 VIN guide lists WMI 2C4 (FCA Canada Inc., MPV) with plant code R for Windsor.
How do I know a VIN is a Chrysler if the WMI is shared with Dodge and Jeep?
Positions 5 to 7 carry the brand and model. Since the shared WMIs such as 1C4 and 2C4 cover several Stellantis brands, a full decode is the reliable way to confirm the make; our decoder reads it from NHTSA's vPIC database.
