Škoda VIN decoder
TMB is the manufacturer code that Škoda says it uses at the start of its VINs. TM falls in the TJ to TP range allocated to the Czech Republic, and Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) lists TMB under Škoda Auto a.s. of Mladá Boleslav. Škoda has been part of the Volkswagen Group since 1991, when Volkswagen took a 30% stake, and wholly owned since 2000. It builds cars, estates and SUVs, including the Octavia and the electric Enyaq and Elroq.
Enter all 17 characters. For vehicles built for other markets, expect the maker and region rather than full specifications.

Škoda's Czech plants are Mladá Boleslav, Kvasiny and Vrchlabí, and it also builds cars in India. Škoda has also published an explanation of its own VIN layout, including how position 11 separates cars from Mladá Boleslav and Kvasiny. That makes Škoda VINs easier to read than many others, even without a database lookup.
Škoda cars were imported into the United States in small numbers from 1957 into the 1960s, but none have been sold there since, and NHTSA's recall search lists no Škoda campaigns for any model year from 1966 to 2026. NHTSA's vPIC database has no entry for TMB either. So this page shows no NHTSA recall or complaint statistics, and our decoder can read only the region, country and check-digit result. The notes below explain the rest.

Which WMI codes does Škoda use?
Škoda's own media site names TMB as its manufacturer code. KBA's manufacturer list, dated 15 January 2026, gives TMB and two further codes under Škoda Auto a.s., and lists other TM and TN codes under Škoda's earlier company names.

How does Škoda explain its VIN?
In a June 2023 article on its Škoda Storyboard site, the manufacturer walks through a VIN for an Octavia Combi 1.5 TSI. The layout it describes is below; the example values come from Škoda's article and change from model to model.

Position 9 in Škoda's description plays the role of a check digit, and position 10 is a model-year code, even though ISO 3779 requires neither and EU rules made the check digit mandatory only for vehicle types approved from 6 July 2022. Older Škodas may not follow this pattern, so treat it as a guide for recent models and confirm details against the registration document. Where is the VIN on a Škoda?
According to Škoda, the VIN is stamped on the bodywork in the engine compartment, usually at the front right, and shown on a plate at the front left under the windscreen. It is also on the registration certificate. For other places to look, see where to find your VIN.
How do you check Škoda recalls?
NHTSA's data, which powers our recall lookup, has no Škoda entries. For a Škoda, use:
- United Kingdom: the GOV.UK service Check if a vehicle, part or accessory has been recalled, which looks cars up by registration number or by make, model and year.
- Germany: the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt recall database (Rückrufdatenbank), linked from kba.de.
- France: RappelConso (rappel.conso.gouv.fr), where Škoda notices identify affected cars by production period rather than by VIN.
- Anywhere: a Škoda dealer can check open campaigns against the full VIN.

Which plant built my Škoda?
Škoda says position 11 of the VIN identifies the plant: 0 to 4 for Mladá Boleslav and 5 to 9 for Kvasiny. Other characters there may point to other plants, so check the registration document or ask a dealer if the code is unfamiliar.
Can this site decode a Škoda VIN?
Only partly. Our decoder relies on NHTSA's vPIC database, which has no entry for TMB because Škoda is not sold in the U.S. It can show the region and country and run the check-digit calculation, but it cannot name the model or engine.
Where can I check recalls for my Škoda?
Use the GOV.UK recall checker in the UK, the KBA recall database in Germany, RappelConso in France, or a Škoda dealer, who can check the full VIN. NHTSA data does not cover Škoda.
Does a Škoda VIN show accident or ownership history?
No. A VIN identifies the vehicle and how it was built. Ownership, accident and mileage records are held by registration authorities and history providers, and this site does not include them.
